Notification Services: Korean Airlines offers SMS & e-mail notification service under which they will send you notifications (latest updates regarding your air travel) on your mobile phone in the form of messages or e-mail alerts. Boarding Pass through E-Ticket

Baggage charges for your baggage in Korean Airlines depend on the departure country and destination. However, if your baggage weighs between 23 and 32kg (51–70lb), it may incur additional charges depending on your allowance. 

Domestic passengers will be charged a fee of KRW 2,000 kg for the excess baggage.

Baggage charges are calculated as per the currency of the country from where your flight is departing. Following is the list of currency standard to be paid as per the country.

  • United States – USD Prices
  • Canada – CAD Prices
  • Indonesia – IDR Prices

Note:  USD will also be used as standard price during departures from other countries and will be according to the standard price converted based on the exchange rate of the day.

Korean airlines ensure that your baggage reaches your destination safely and without any hassles. However, there are certain rules that apply to First, Prestige, and Economy Class passengers. 

Weight limits on Carry-on Items

  • First and Prestige Class: 18 Kg / 40lb
  • Economy Class: 12 Kg / 25lb

Dimension Limits

40cm in width, 20cm in height, and 55cm in depth including the handle and wheels or your overall baggage piece must be less than 115cm.

Carry-on Musical Instruments and Sports Equipment

The size of your carry-on musical instrument, if less than 115 cm you may carry it onboard for free. If it exceeds this limit, you will have to purchase an additional seat and accommodate that item.

You are also allowed to take sports equipment (Golf Clubs, Surfboards, Skies, and snowboard) along with you, but there are certain guidelines that you need to follow and also pay an overweight fee, oversize fee, and a handling fee.

Note: Economy class passengers are allowed to carry one additional item (laptop, briefcase, or a handbag) but it should not weigh more than 12 kg. Codeshare partners may have different policies for carry-on baggage.

Customers who have made reservations directly from the Korean Air ticketing office, Korean Air Service center (800-438-5000), or Korean Air website before a week or more before the first departure date of their itinerary are entitled to a refund for their ticket without any penalty if they cancel the reservation. They will also be refunded within 24 hours of the original purchase.

Changes in the flight ticket can be made through your travel agency or Korean airlines service centers. Although changes are allowed, a change fee may be applied according to the fare rules.

Additional Charges for International Tickets

A refund service charge is applicable to refund regardless of whether cancelation was made before the departure date. But the service charge will be exempted if the penalty applies.

You can make changes in your flight ticket by contacting the point of sales such as travel agency or any of the Korean airline’s service center. However, a change fee may be applied according to airlines fare rules.

If you prefer to receive a refund, it can be made through your travel agency or airline’s Service Centers, depending on the place of your purchase. There are few rules related to refund policy like:

  • You can apply for the refunds only when you have a valid ticket.
  • You can ask for a refund within 30 days from the expiration date of your ticket.
  • If you request a full refund on an unused international ticket, refund penalty will apply and vary depending on the time of your refund request.

Yes, tickets are refundable, but there are certain conditions.

  • To get a refund for your ticket, it must be valid at first. Your tickets can be valid either one year from the issuance date or one year from the departure date.
  • When applying for the refund, keep in mind that you need to apply within 30 days from the expiration date of your ticket.
  • Only those customers can receive the refund whose names are mentioned on the ticket itself.
  • E-Ticket Itinerary/Receipt and passenger's photo identification are mandatory documents to be shown to agents.
  • For domestic tickets, refund fees and additional charges shall be applied to every ticket according to its booking class.

Kiosk Express Check-In

International passengers: The convenient kiosk service allows passengers traveling internationally to obtain their boarding pass without checking in at the airport counter. This service is available for passengers 60 minutes before the flight departure.

Domestic passengers: The convenient kiosk service allows passengers traveling in Korea to obtain a boarding pass without checking in at the airport counter. This service is available 20 minutes before the flight.

Passengers not eligible for Kiosk Express Check-in

International flights

  • Passengers who need special help.

Domestic flights

Korean Airlines allows its passengers to fly with their pets like dogs, cats, and birds. But these are permitted to travel in the cabin only if they are more than 8 weeks old. However, if a pet is older than 16 weeks of age, it needs to be carried in the cargo compartment.

A pet should not be larger than 115 cm (45 in; for economy class, the height should be less than 20 cm (8 in) (soft cages can be 26 cm high (10 in)).
